About our Durham insulation contractor team

Who we are, how we got started and how a job with us runs from the first call to cleanup.

How a commercial crew hand started this business

I learned insulation on the crews of a big commercial insulation company, spraying foam and fitting board in warehouses, schools and office buildings. Those jobs taught me that most insulation problems trace back to a step someone rushed, because once a layer's covered up, nobody sees the mistake until the bill or the draft shows it.

In 2013 I started Sealcraft Durham Insulation Company to bring that same care to homes here in Durham. Thirteen years on, we're the insulation contractor people call about the drafty bedroom, the hot room over the garage or a power bill that keeps climbing. Property managers call us too, for the commercial buildings they look after.

What I care about most is that you understand your own house when we're done. A homeowner who knows why we sealed the gaps before topping up the attic makes better choices for years after. I'd rather lose a job by being straight with you than win it by skipping a step.

How we work in your attic and crawl space

These are the habits you'll notice from the first walk-through to cleanup. Most of them came with me from the commercial jobs where I learned the trade.

You see it before we price it

Before we quote anything, I show you what's going on up there, how many inches are already down, whether the old material is wet or full of droppings, and where air is getting through. That way you know what you're paying for, and why we'd seal the gaps around lights, pipes and the hatch before adding a single inch.

Every layer checked first

On big commercial jobs, nobody covered a layer until someone had checked it, and we still work that way in houses. We keep the eave vents along the roof edge clear so the attic can breathe, and we make sure the edges get as much coverage as the middle, since thin edges over the walls are where a lot of attics fall short.

Straight talk about problems

Sometimes we find something that isn't ours to fix, like a roof leak, a pest problem or wiring that needs an electrician. We tell you plainly, help you figure out who should handle it and hold off on our part until it's sorted, because fresh insulation over an open problem just hides it.

What happens after you call us

Here's how a job runs, start to finish. I'm the one who looks at your house, so the plan you hear at the estimate is the plan the crew follows.

  1. 1

    Call or send the form

Call (919) 246-8605 or fill out the contact form and tell us what's bothering you, whether it's a hot upstairs, cold floors or a high power bill. We reply within one business day to set up a visit.

  2. 2

    Walk the house with me

I come out myself to look at the attic or crawl space and write the free, no-obligation estimate. You get it in writing, and I walk you through each line, from the area we're covering to whether old material comes out first.

  3. 3

    Let us handle the prep

Before we start, we check with the permit office that covers your address, and where a permit is needed we handle the paperwork and meet the inspector. On the day, our trained installers and a crew lead protect your floors and get to work.

  4. 4

    See the finished work

When the work's done, we clean up and show you what we did and why it went in that order. Ask anything, as many times as you like, because knowing your house helps you make good calls on it later.
